Albergo diffuso e recupero di un borgo rurale: Il caso di Osini
ABSTRACT
This thesis is about the adoption of albergo diffuso (AD), in English scattered hotel, a strategy able to counteract depopulation of small villages and recover abandoned centres. The AD is a tourist management system which offers full hotel services by exploiting the housing potential of local areas without building a new centralized unit. Thus the AD shows an horizontal scheme, while traditional hotels present a vertical one. This new form of hospitality is based on a set of existing buildings in the ancient and rural centres and, in addition to residences, offers the chance to live the territory taking part to social life enjoying the services of a full hotel. In the first part of the Thesis, I introduce various forms of rural tourism and related international and Italian regional regulations. In the second part, I elaborate on a proposal of AD for the old centre of Osini, in a central eastern area of Sardinia, Italy. Osini was completely abandoned and reconstructed in another northern and near location after a flood that in 1951 damaged very seriously the whole settlement. The proposal is referred to a long run perspective, which includes preliminary stabilization works, repopulation of Osini, and the development of AD as further territorial enhancement tool. I study actions and interventions in line with the disposition of relevant regional (Regional Landscape Plan and Hydrogeological Plan) and municipal (Communal Urban Plan and Implementation Plan for the Recovery of the Ancient Centre) tools. In particular, the AD proposal implies the adoption of traditional building types, techniques and materials.
